Bio

Biography:

Elaine McCollom earned her B.A. in Spanish with a minor in French and her M.A. in TESOL with a certificate in Composition. She began her career at California State University, Sacramento in 2001 where she taught both mainstream and multilingual composition courses, working extensively with students in the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), a federally funded program for the children of migrant workers.

She joined the UWP faculty at UC Davis in Fall 2014 and served as a multilingual program assistant director from Spring 2016-Spring 2018. She has taught the range of multilingual undergraduate writing courses (UWP 21-7M) and graduate courses (UWP 225, 226, and 391), as well as the upper-division composition courses UWP 101 and 104A. Elaine’s passion for teaching is based on developing personal connections with her students, as it is her firm belief that relationships with faculty members create a solid foundation for student retention and success in the university. To that end, she advised a number of Greek organizations during her career at Sac State and is currently the faculty advisor for Sigma Delta Alpha, a multicultural fraternity, at UC Davis.

Besides working with students, there is nothing Elaine enjoys more than traveling to far-off destinations and subjecting local residents to her sometimes painful attempts to speak French, Norwegian, Swedish, and Arabic. When she’s not able to physically board a plane, she travels far and wide by reading books that can take her anywhere, from Scandinavian and British crime scenes to the realm of the fae.
