Research Areas:

Technical communication, including editing and data visualizations; field-wide programmatic and pedagogical studies.

Teaching Areas:

Professional and technical editing; business and professional writing; technical writing; research methods; information design/data visualizations.

Biography:

Carolyn Gubala has a PhD in English with a focus on professional and technical communication. As a tech comm teacher and scholar, she is interested in field-wide programmatic and pedagogical studies. Before pursuing graduate studies, Carolyn worked in publishing for more than a decade, including seven years as a managing editor at a marketing and business news company in San Diego. She also has a vast and varied editing background gained from her writing and editing consultancy. Consulting projects include marketing content, book editing/indexes, recipe development, technical documents, procedures/instructions/user guides, grant writing, SEO editing, social media writing/editing, academic publishing, and user experience.
