UWP Professor Rebekka Andersen Presents Research on Workplace Practices and Scholarship in Technical Communication at 2026 CPTSC Conference
Rebekka Andersen, Associate Professor in the University Writing Program and Associate Director of Professional Writing, recently presented her research at the 2026 Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication (CPTSC) Conference in Boise, ID. The annual conference brings together scholars, educators, and program administrators to discuss developments in the field of technical and professional communication.
Andersen presented her paper, “Technical Communication Research-Practice/Academy-Industry Initiatives Through the Years: What We Can Learn from Four Case Examples,” which addresses the need for increased empirical research focused on technical communication practices in industry settings and explores ways to better support this area of scholarship. Drawing on four past research initiatives, the paper examines efforts to strengthen practice-focused research and foster more reciprocal relationships between academic researchers and industry practitioners.
Her findings highlight both the accomplishments of these initiatives and the challenges that affected their long-term sustainability. She also offers recommendations for sustaining conversations between academics and practitioners, increasing the visibility of research relevant to practice, and creating stronger support for future research.
The paper is currently under review with IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication, a leading peer-reviewed journal in the field.
In addition to presenting her research, Andersen was elected to the CPTSC Executive Committee as a member at large for the 2026–2028 term. Her new position provides an opportunity to help shape the development and direction of technical and professional communication programs nationally.
Congratulations to Professor Andersen on her contributions and new leadership role!
