Meet Our Alumni
Amanah Talabhaktula graduated from UC Davis in 2025 with a B.S. in Neurobiology, Physiology, & Behavior, and a minor in Professional Writing. Amanah wants to be a foot and ankle surgeon, and she is working hard at Samuel Merritt University College of Podiatric Medicine to achieve her goals. She is one of thousands of students to graduate from UC Davis with a minor in Professional Writing, and just like her peers from the program, she is on track to achieve her professional aspirations. Every year, the Professional Writing minor helps students like Amanah secure internships, grow their network, and improve their writing skills. Many students are curious about what their future could look like after graduation, and thanks to the updated Alumni Spotlights page, they can learn directly from our alumni!
Discover Career Paths and Opportunities
Even if they start at the same college or in the same major, every alum has a unique career path. The Alumni Spotlights page was updated to show students the real experiences of graduates and share how the Professional Writing minor helps them at work. For instance, one alum that students will get to learn about is Riley Casentini. Through the Professional Writing minor, she found her passion for communication about public health and leading social justice campaigns. Riley details how her Professional Writing minor internship led her to her job at The Social Changery, as well as the courses that gave her a strong foundation as a writer and interviewer. Through spotlights like Riley's, students will learn how alumni found their place in different industries and what their jobs entail.
How the Page Helps Students and Recent Graduates
The Alumni Spotlights page is a multidisciplinary hub with the latest advice from recent graduates and expert tips from seasoned alumni. For college students, the page offers information about what skills are currently valued in the job market, possible career paths, and must-take classes in the Professional Writing minor. For recent graduates, the page can be a helpful resource to connect with their community and learn more about where they could take their careers next.
How to Join Our Community
Whether you are a current student or have already graduated, there are still ways to be a part of the Professional Writing minor community. For students, it only takes twenty units of coursework, four of which are your internship, to declare a Professional Writing minor. Throughout the year, we host different events, and our Instagram, LinkedIn, and Linktree are updated often. Our program also has advisors who can help you find internships and answer any questions you have. If you are a graduate of the Professional Writing minor program, you can be featured in future spotlights and help the next generation of students with your career advice. It only takes two minutes to submit an application, and everyone is welcome to apply. Also, join our LinkedIn to connect with other alumni and build a stronger network.

Shayna Schreiber is a third-year undergraduate, majoring in communication and minoring in professional writing. She is a Communications Specialist Intern for the Professional Writing Minor, helping students learn about writing-based internships through social media and articles she has written.
