New Contexts for Writing in the 21st Century

Announcing the Upcoming Computers & Writing 2009 Conference: Ubiquitous and Sustainable Computing @ School, @ Work, @ Play

http://writingprogram.ucdavis.edu/cw2009/

The University Writing Program at UC Davis is pleased to host a forward-thinking virtual conference on writing and computing to begin on Tuesday, February 17th and continue--online--through the 1st of March, 2009. The ways in which we write are changing at school, at home, and at play; and the ways we use computers are shifting too.

Conference speakers and interested participants are invited to join the discussion of topics relevant to contemporary writing with computers for this online event, using sessions supported through UC Davis' campus Sakai system that are accessible 24/7, and using synchronized sessions in Adobe Connect as well as the popular avatar-based platforms of SecondLife.

Featured topics will include panel discussions of Ambient Innovation, Sustainability, and New Contexts for Writing; Business Writing in Second Life; ePortfolios; and Breaking Down Classroom Walls: Media for Social Change.  Faculty, student, and staff participants are encouraged to start their own threads within the moderated discussion forums and within the SmartSite-based wikis.

Interested participants may register for the online conference at:

For Information about the onsite sequel: Part Two of the Conference that will take place in June, see the attached pdf document.
