Speaker Series: Conversations with Writers
Since 2006, the University Writing Program has invited to the campus nationally and internationally known writers to speak about their work.
We intend our workshops to bring together faculty, students, and
members of the broader community in a series of discussions around the craft of writing and the composition of particular books by our authors.
Topics have ranged from science writing to the art of the book review, from writing on food to writing on politics. These events produce lively exchanges about the issues and themes that these writers explore. Our speakers have included Seymour Hersh, Jeffrey Toobin, Gary Marcus, Mary Roach, Jim Trefil, Raj Patel, William Langewiesche, Carla Meyer, Kim Stanley Robinson, Michael Pollan, and Tracy Kidder, among others. Over the coming years we aim to host at least one major speaker event per quarter.
Speakers are recommended by faculty members of the UWP, and are invited by the Community and Professional Development Committee. We appreciate the collaboration of the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts and the UC Davis Community Book Project in arranging for some of these events.
