Workshops:

Doing What Works (Grades K-2)

With recent curriculum adoptions, some may feel out of touch with how our students are doing as writers. In this workshop, we will discuss how to include a writer's workshop model (or set time for writing everyday) in the ELA block, integrate standards, and stay in tune with student needs.

Topics Covered:

  • time management
  • writer’s notebook
  • mini-lessons
  • conferring with students
  • integrating standards
  • publishing

Let’s keep writing at the center and have fun at the same time!

Presenter: Poppi Canepa, Brooks Elementary, Buckeye USD

Argument Writing and the Writing Process: Drafting and Revising (Grades 6-12)

You've spent weeks helping your students to write solid claims, find evidence for their thinking, and organize their thoughts for writing. So why are they still asking, "How do I start?" Then, once you DO get them to create a draft, why is it so hard to get them to make real, substantive revisions? In this workshop, we'll be targeting effective strategies for drafting and revising argument writing as well as examine student work.  To get the most out of this workshop, try to bring drafts of student writing. Also, please feel free to bring your own device as WiFi is available. Presenters: Dale Lee, James Rutter MS, and Tracey Anderson, Florin High School, Elk Grove USD
