UWP-trained graduate student wins an Outstanding Graduate TA Award for teaching.
UWP graduate student instructor Pearl Chaozon-Bauer received an Outstanding Graduate TA Award for teaching. Pearl taught UWP 1 in from Fall 2009 through Spring 2011, after being trained via two graduate-level courses offered by the UWP. In the first of these, future instructors are introduced to the basics of rhetoric and composition theory; in the second, they develop a syllabus and are given practical skills such as responding to student writing, creating assignments, and reviewing grammar. The UWP offers these two quarters of graduate-level training to all graduate students; other programs currently involved are comparative literature, education, and Native American Studies. After receiving this training, graduate students can apply to teach UWP 1 and are rehired each quarter based on their performance. The Director of Lower Division Composition is Dana Ferris, who can be reached at drferris@ucdavis.edu.
