Biography:
Dr. Major received a Bachelor's degree in English and Education with
honors from the University of Iowa, completing an honors thesis on the
poetry of John Donne and Richard Crashaw. Her Masters in English from
Bowling Green State University, in Ohio, featured a thesis on the work
of Joyce Cary. At the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Dr. Major
focused on Twentieth Century British Literature and American Literature
with a dissertation on Robert Coover's fiction, especially The Public
Burning, exploring its use of history, myth and political satire.
Previously she taught at the University of Colorado, Boulder and the
University of Nice, France.
In addition to teaching a variety of upper and lower division composition courses at UCD, including UWP 18, 101, 104B, 104D, and numerous 102 adjuncts with courses in the disciplines, Dr. Major has also taught Multi-Ethnic Literature. Having been Computer Coordinator for the Computer Assisted Writing Program in the Department, Dr. Major continues her interest in using technology in the classroom. She has been an active member of various campus committees, including the Campus Council on Community and Diversity. In addition she contributes to various outreach programs for K-12 students in the community. Recent publications include interviews of John Barth and Tillie Olsen in Writing on the Edge.
